An auspicious beginning is one which brings imperishable happiness, satisfaction and prosperity

Together, this state of being is known as Anand and Mangal.

This happens when Lord Ganesha is invited to be the first to enjoy each new beginning, and more importantly that he continues to stay and reside.

For this he needs to be respected, entertained and given a prominent place in each Hindu home.

The most coveted place for Ganesh is atop an entrance gate, which is found at most havelis.

It is good luck to have the image of Shri Ganesh in your home, visible from almost anywhere. The idea that he will not be forgotten and is a part of your every day life.

It is believed that Ganesha will not stay if he is not entertained and the best way of keeping him pleased is to offer him sweets, as food is the best expression of happiness.

This is Anand, a deep sense of satisfaction which is free of any comparisons. The full granary of the house and a cow in the yard represent prosperity in a Hindu life. Always feed a visitor, never let a sadhu at your door go without alms and never forget to feed the resident Gods, most especially Lord Ganesha.
