DISCOVER THE HAVELI OF TALES

In Mukunda, the kitchen is the
beating heart of the haveli

A room without doors, our kitchen remains an open welcoming chamber, the hub of all that happens in and throughout the haveli, from early morning to night.

You will awaken to the hush of silent footsteps, the murmur of voices under a veranda, the sounds of a peacock off in the distance. But what will intrigue you most will be the intoxicating aromas that will drift slowly from the courtyard, up to the balcony and into your room. These aromas are quiet invitations, travelling freely through the myriad of spaces, the way stories do - unannounced and irresistable. The crackling cumin seeds that dance over charcoal smell earthy and warm, while the sweet smell of cardamom and ginger signals the first chai of the day.

But fragrance is only the dressing. The first key to a world of homemade seasonal dishes made fresh from the garden, sacred and long forgotten recipes now revived - and an ayurvedic inspired kitchen that reflects the culture of Indian lifestyle and cooking. In Mukunda, we embrace a philosophy of food that honours both Indian and western traditions, while hoping to quietly introduce our guests to all the most exotic tastes of India.

We believe that the magic of flavour can unlock lasting friendships and create a bridge between cultures.
